Promoting individual and collective reflection, contemplation,
prayer and
retreat

About

We are all busy juggling everyday life and it can be difficult to take time out to reflect, contemplate or pray.
The benefits of taking time out to pause… breathe and reset the rhythm of our lives is invaluable. Let’s say it’s a retreat to go forward… a time to trust in God more, to nourish your soul, a chance to check-in with your life’s direction, to look afresh and to renew:all.

National Retreat Week – renew:all (21st -28th Sept 2024) is a call to be intentional about finding and setting that time – alone or with others – whether during the week itself or at any time throughout the year. We produce resources with experienced retreat leaders, and share other ideas and inspiration from across Christian traditions to help you do that.

National Retreat week – renew:all is managed and coordinated by The Royal Foundation of St Katharine, a Christian retreat, conference and community centre in East London – for people of all backgrounds from across the UK.

National Retreat Week – Renew:all is endorsed by Archbishop of York, Stephen Cottrell and supported by The Retreat Association, The Association for Promoting Retreats and Archway.

A variety of retreat centres, organisations and churches across denominations are taking part to promote the idea of individual and collective retreats rooted in Christian traditions, supporting the renewal of body, mind and spirit.

FAQ

What do you mean by retreat?
Retreat for us is simply being intentional about taking time out for rest, reflection and prayer – whether it’s 20 minutes at home, a quiet day alone or with others, or a stay at a retreat centre. The renew:all initiative focuses on Christian retreat practices, from those rooted in ancient spiritual traditions, to innovative ideas drawing on modern approaches to mindfulness and wellbeing.

Is this an annual event?
We have plans to grow renew:all over the next three years with new collaborations, resources and events. National Retreat Week 2024 will be 21 – 28 September.

Why are you promoting retreats for only one week of the year?
We hope by focusing on one week, renew:all will act as a useful introduction, reminder, and support to people’s ongoing spiritual practice. Of course, we encourage people to go on retreat anytime in the year.

Who can get involved?
Everyone is invited to take part. Retreat on your own wherever you feel comfortable or as a group in your church or other community setting. You may want to think how you get people who don’t get much time and space to pause and reflect on life involved, maybe parents with young children, carers, or anyone seeking to to renew or develop themselves and their relationship with God.
